The Black Experience Spectrum
The black experience is one of many heartwrenching triumphs. It is a story of good versus evil, the weak versus the powerful, and the oppressed versus the oppressor. It is a story of a people whom continuously bred generations of activist, poets, musicians, and intellectuals.
When you close your eyes, you can hear the black experience in ever genre of music from hip hop to rock. You can taste the black experience from New Orleans to Alaska. You can see the black experience in fashion and poetry. The black experience engulfs this nation.
In each and every crevice of America, you can find the spice of black culture. It seems at times, however, being black is merely a fad or a phase in which White America can participate without consequence. But, to be black is not like a light switch; you cannot turn it on and off at free will. To be black is to accept that although you are equal, you will not be treated as such. To be black is to be made fun of for your full lips and wide hips. To be black is to be deamed violent and uneducated. To be black is to be a slave in your own skin. To be black is to be powerful, despite oppression. To be black is to gleam and shine with melanin. To be black is to be victorious against all odds. The black culture is wonderous, and soulful, and triumphant. It is to be held dear to our hearts. It is to be cherished.
